Hyderabad: “Scrap currently contributes nearly 21% of India’s crude steel production, compared to a global average of around one-third. While the scrap consumption in the Indian steel sector has been rising, the scrap availability is estimated to rise to nearly 36 million tonnes, which clearly indicates that demand for steel scrap will increase as capacity expansion continues,” said Daya Nidhan Pandey, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, addressing the inaugural session of the 13th International Material Recycling Conference and Exposition (IMRC 2026) at Jaipur on Wednesday.
